Construction of the new PET-Film line has begun

February 2024

The construction of the new polyester film line at Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH with a capacity of 27,000 t of HOSTAPHAN® PET films has begun in the Kalle Albert industrial area in Wiesbaden.

Currently 4000m3 of concrete is being used to cast the floor slab. The completion of the major project with an investment of approx. €120 million is on schedule and will be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

The plant will be equipped with the latest technology and will therefore be one of the most modern production plants for polyester films in the world. Through heat recovery, it ensures energy-efficient production, which will reduce the entire company’s CO2 emissions. The direct use of plastic shredder (PCR) as a raw material accelerates the company’s efforts to achieve a circular economy. The highly automated roll packaging and robot support systems will provide a comfortable working climate for the employees. State-of-the-art automated quality control using X-rays and optical systems increase the quality of the HOSTAPHAN®PET films.

Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH, part of the global Mitsubishi Chemical Group, is the only PET film supplier to invest in Europe. This ensures the supply to European customers with high-quality and innovative HOSTAPHAN® PET films as well as supporting 560 jobs in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH currently produces 50,000 t of polyester films annually for a wide variety of applications. The HOSTAPHAN® film is used, for example, for applications in the automotive sector, for EV batteries, for casting and for medical applications.
