25 Years Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH

On October 1st, 2023, Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH celebrated its 25th anniversary alongside Mitsubishi Chemical.
In 1957, the first commercial production line produced biaxially oriented PET film under the brand name HOSTAPHAN® in the Kalle-Albert industrial park in Wiesbaden, thereby laying the foundation for the company history of Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH, at that time still as a 100% subsidiary of the Hoechst AG.
Over the years, the team has built up excellent know-how in the production of boPET films and the company has invested in several production lines.
In 1991, Hoechst Diafoil GmbH, a joint venture between Hoechst and Mitsubishi, was founded with the aim of building a production line for video films in Wiesbaden.
In 1998, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation took over Hoechst AG’s shares in Hoechst Diafoil GmbH and founded the Mitsubishi Polyester Film Group, an innovative global market leader in the polyester business.
This was incorporated into the Mitsubishi Chemical Group in 2022 and is now one of the group’s core businesses. HOSTAPHAN® polyester films are now used in applications such as EV batteries, medical applications, furniture surfaces or labels.
