Hydrolysis stable HOSTAPHAN® polyester films

Outdoor weather attacks polyester not only through UV radiation (see UV-stable HOSTAPHAN® types), but also through hydrolysis – that is cleavage of the molecular chain through the chemical reaction with water. This is particularly critical in durable products for outdoor use and often a reason to exclude polyester-based plastics in outdoor applications – such as in photovoltaic applications.

Our hydrolysis resistant HOSTAPHAN® films are specially stabilised so that the degradation is significantly slower. We offer solutions for the outer layer of photovoltaic backsheets and for double or single layer backsheets.

Our films have been tested according to the damp heat test (DHT) IEC 61215 / IEC 60068-2-78 and DIN EN ISO 4892-3:2006 (QUV).

HOSTAPHAN® LHB – Black hydrolysis stable polyester film

As an alternative to white outer surfaces on the back side of photovoltaic modules, we can offer our black HOSTAPHAN® LHB. It is stabilized against weathering effects of UV radiation and hydrolysis and offers optimised burning behaviour, so that it is well suited as an outer layer.

HOSTAPHAN® WIN – White hydrolysis stable polyester film for monolayer backsheets

Developed for the requirements of the photovoltaic market, HOSTAPHAN® WIN offers extremely high UV stability and good hydrolysis stability. It is used as double or single layer backsheet. Since no outer and core films need to be laminated, there is no danger of delamination.

Thickness range in µm: 125, 175, 250, 300

Available with chemical pre-treatment for adhesion promotion.

HOSTAPHAN® BIN – Black polyester film for monolayer backsheets

Black HOSTAPHAN® BIN can be used as double or single layer backsheet. As for all products in this range, it is stabilised against hydrolytic and UV degradation.

Thickness range in µm: 175

Available with chemical pre-treatment for adhesion promotion.
